Attractions

Beaches of Alicante

Playa del Postiguet – This city beach lies at the foot of Monte Benacantil, directly below Santa Bárbara Castle, so even while swimming you get a striking view of the city and the historic fortress. The sand is fine and golden, and the sea is shallow and deepens gradually, which makes it ideal for families and smaller children as well. A promenade runs the full length of the beach, where bars, restaurants and cafés line up, so you can always stop for a refreshing drink or some local tapas. Since it connects directly to the centre, it’s easy to reach by public transport or on foot — one of the most popular meeting places for tourists and locals alike.

Playa de San Juan – Alicante’s largest and best-known beach, stretching for kilometres to the north. The wide, fine-sand shore offers plenty of space; watersports (surf, SUP) and beach volleyball are very popular. Along the long seafront there is a row of chiringuitos and restaurants — Mediterranean mood at maximum.

Family-friendly services – accessible ramps, foot showers, showers and restrooms; lifeguards and supervised sections in high season. In many places there are also playgrounds and beach libraries.

Other nearby beachesPlaya de la Albufereta (quieter, a local favourite); the rocky coves of Cabo de las Huertas are a snorkelling and diving paradise.

Nature & Day Trips

Tabarca Island — fishing boats in a crystal-clear cove

Tabarca Island – Located about 22 km from Alicante’s coast and reachable by boat in roughly one hour. This small piece of land is special as Spain’s first marine reserve: it is characterised by crystal-clear, emerald-green water, rich marine life and varied vegetation. In the centre of the island stands a tiny, atmospheric village surrounded by fortress walls, so visitors can enjoy a blend of history and nature. Thanks to its calm coves and beaches, it is an ideal destination for snorkelling and diving, but it is also a perfect choice for those who want a relaxed, full-day excursion. You can stroll the narrow streets, take a break at one of the restaurants serving fish and seafood, or circle the island by boat to discover every corner. In the summer months, Tabarca exudes a truly Mediterranean atmosphere where nature and tranquillity are present at the same time.

Quick panoramas close to the city – If you don’t want to travel far, you can find impressive viewpoints right next to Alicante as well. The short but varied trails of Serra Grossa are ideal for a quick walk or an easier hike, from where there are fantastic panoramas of the sea and the city. Likewise unmissable is Monte Benacantil, on which the famous Santa Bárbara Castle stands: from the top of the hill you get the full panorama of Alicante, including the harbour and the coastline. It is especially worth visiting at sunset, when the city bathes in golden light and the sun slowly sets over the sea, creating an unforgettable mood. Even in a short time these places offer a great experience, so they make a perfect programme for an afternoon outing.
